Why this error occurs

Let’s first discuss the reasons why this error occurs –

  • When you switch your Blogger site from HTTP to HTTPS, it will take some time to reflect the changes all over your website. Until then, your website will be down and it will show this error message.
  • Another reason could be that there is some problem in the DNS settings of your domain i.e. the CNAME and A records in your DNS doesn’t match with the Blogger.

How to fix this issue in Blogger HTTPS website

Here we have shared some methods that can help you to fix the “This site can’t be reached” error on your Blogger website when you switch from HTTP to HTTPS.

Check your DNS settings

DNS stands for Domain Name System. When you set up a custom domain website on Blogger, you have to add CNAMEs and A records of Blogger in the DNS settings of your domain. If you haven’t set these settings correctly, your website will not work.

To check your DNS settings, simply login to your account where you have registered your domain (like GoDaddy) and then go to the DNS Manager of your domain. Now make sure that the CNAMEs and A Records are the same here as provided by Blogger.

Wait for some time

Blogger will take some time to transfer your website from HTTP to HTTPS completely. In between this time period, the HTTPS version of your website will not work and you will get this error message – “This site can’t be reached”.

There is nothing you can do to speed up the process. So just wait for some time and check back again later. It can take from 15 minutes up to 1 hour of time.

Stop HTTP to HTTPS redirection

Until the HTTPS version of your website is up, you can allow visitors to access the old HTTP version. This is possible by stopping the redirection you have set up from HTTP to HTTPS. Here’s how you can do it –

  1. Login to your Blogger Dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings > Basic.
  3. Now tap the drop-down button next to the HTTPS Redirect option and change it to No. That’s it.
    Disable HTTP to HTTPS redirection

Important Note: This is just a temporary solution until your website move to HTTPS. Once it is done, you have to enable this redirection again. If you don’t do so, it will affect the SEO of your website.
