Societal Impact of Artificial Intelligence

The effects of technological developments and the various implementations of tools specifically designed to make our lives easier have been a hot topic of discussion for over a decade. Despite the polarizing nature of this topic, one thing stands for certain. Technology has completely redefined the way we live our lives.

Societal impact of Artificial Intelligence

Nowadays, the impact far transcends just entertainment, with learning tools, communication, shopping, etc. all being available online. On top of this, the rapid progression of AI has rekindled this conversation to perhaps its most heated point. Many different concerns have been brought forward by a large number of people regarding ethics, job displacement, and various other topics.

Below, we will go over the current state of AI in our world, and examine some of the arguments made in favor of, and against its continued progression.

The Intended Role and Applications of AI

Ideally, Artificial Intelligence is something that is used to aid human experience in various ways depending on the specifics. Perhaps the most commonly used, accessible option available to all with an internet connection, are the various Chatbots designed as guides/helpers.

Ranging from performing trivial tasks, such as providing quicker access to information already available online, to achieving more complicated objectives, such as generating art, or even helping out with writing code, the use cases are truly diverse.

To elaborate more, AI also does a lot of behind-the-scenes work, transcending the borders of online bots for chattting (aka chatbots), which do not typically raise controversy or concern. Take the entertainment industry for example. Various online services such as social media platforms, websites, casinos, etc. may use AI tools to offer greater personalized marketing, tailored toward specific tastes.

The Use of AI in Casinos

For the latter of the listed, if we take a more modern establishment for gaming, for instance, any reputable, crypto-friendly real money casino USA, the AI tools will be implemented to analyze data, provide greater fraud detection, enable greater surveillance over the casino games, and so on. After all, crypto casinos that deal in digital assets, such as Bitcoin, stand at the forefront of innovation, opening a whole new world of opportunities for various AI applications.

Since analyzing large amounts of data is infinitely easier for an AI as opposed to a human, they may even be used for game development, creating new and engaging slot games based on customer preferences and their analysis. The AI systems can also monitor gambling games in real-time to ensure fair play. Additionally, AI could be leveraged for visual design, creating new, engaging soundtracks, themes, and gameplays, which add to the appeal of many slot titles.

As mentioned, casinos are one of the many industries that implement Artificial Intelligence in this fashion. From the looks of it, this style of usage is not a huge point of debate or controversy and perhaps can serve as some kind of a learning point for the overall market.

Popular Concerns Regarding AI

Data analysis ties back into an earlier point raised, and that is regarding AI art. This one is certainly a lot more controversial and complex, in contrast to the strict enhancements described with the casinos above. Since Artificial Intelligence can only gather from already existing sources to simulate a new and unique product, some consumers think that the concept of AI art should not exist at all.

This is an extremely complicated discussion on its own and can delve into the nature of what makes something art, so for this article, we will just state that consumers against AI art do not value it due to an inherent lack of originality. The counter to this seems to be the lack of interest other customers show in what went behind creating the art piece and looking at the finished product only, also stating that not all human art is entirely original, and is often inspired by other pieces the artist saw prior.

This is mainly an ethical concern, but there is also a more pragmatic one, and that is regarding job displacements. Perhaps a job market that highlights this potential issue more clearly simply due to having more concrete data is software engineering/programming

From all the available sources, AI-caused job displacement seems to be almost non-existent in today’s market, as most junior developers speak about using the tools to their advantage, as opposed to being blatantly replaced by them. Although this may be a concern for the future, seeing how quickly the AI-based tech is growing, the far more popular theory seems to be that the barrier of entry will be raised, as opposed to erased, with newcomers requiring greater skill sets to break through.

We have already seen some areas in which Artificial Intelligence has completely dwarfed and surpassed human capabilities, yet has not replaced them in the least. Look no further than Chess, a game in which even the greatest player today would stand no chance against the world’s top computer. Despite this reality, the game is huge, arguably more popular than ever before.

Garry Kasparov has spoken about this exact issue and has concluded that it is best to work with AI, at least in the chess world, to progress further and take the game to the next level. His philosophy is almost universally shared by all top players, who continue to use AI bots to have better preparations, sharper tactics, and new and interesting ideas that push the game forward.

Despite all of this though, it is important to note that chess is qualified as a sport, in which a consumer is not necessarily looking for a perfect game, but rather an entertaining one, and thus the rules might apply differently in comparison to the software development, an area in which the perfect result is going to be superior.

At the end of the day, nobody knows the true consequences of these rapid developments. Conversations will continue, but only time will reveal the reality of the situation.
